Palm Springs − This 5600 square estate home was designed by Howard Hughes who sold it to his friend Howard Hawks during construction in 1949. The house was named Casa de Plata (House of Silver) by Hawks and was featured in a February 1981 Architectural Digest photo shoot. The home features 5 bedrooms with 5 en-suite baths. This ¾ acre walled and gated estate features beautiful gardens, reflecting pond lined with towering mature palms, a large new pool with power sliding child/pet safety cover, large spa, outdoor fire pit, outdoor kitchen and barbecue, state−of−the−art gourmet kitchen, Custom furnishings, fireplaces in 4 bedrooms and in the main living area. Howard Hawks is one of the half dozen most famous Hollywood directors, with his career spanning the 30's through the '60's. He is the director of many of the classic "screwball comedies" such as His Girl Friday with Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell and Bringing Up Baby with Grant and Katharine Hepburn, great westerns, such as Red River with John Wayne and Montgomery Clift, and the Bogart−Bacall movies To Have and Have Not and The Big Sleep. In fact Hawks discovered Bacall when she was a 19 year old model. At the end of his career as a director, Hawks moved permanently to this house, where he spent his remaining years.
